In Jersey City, we love our food, drinks and music. On Friday, December 9th, the second Midnight Market brought all three of these together in the Harborside Atrium. Twenty-four vendors filled the holiday-adorned hall creating a bazaar like feel. There were three bars courtesy of Hamilton Pork serving beer and pre-made tequila and bourbon cocktails.
Upon entry you were greeted with a step and repeat – a perfect spot to take a selfie (or three) and get social.
Chilltown Collective pumped out tunes while lines formed at the food stalls, and a few people took to the floor to let loose and get down.
Foodies gathered around tables sharing their tasty treasures while chatting with new friends. Flashes flickered for snaps and the gram – I even caught one reveler holding a flashlight between her teeth to capture the perfect shot!
JC's tried and true – Baonanas, The Angry Crab, and Garden Steaks – came out and some newer faces showed too like Munchies by Antonio – delicious arepas, Boil Boil Ramen, and Juicy Spot Café – hand rolled Thai ice cream. Juicy Spot was a fan favorite for the show with video worthy ice cream rolling on the sub-zero anti-griddle.
Modern Banh, a delivery only restaurant, made a physical appearance serving a chicken and a vegetarian option. I opted for the chicken and rice with white sauce and a sriracha drizzle and thoroughly enjoyed my choice.
I'd love to see this concept continue and grow. I think it could be even better with a little more variety in food vendors. While claiming international, diversity was lacking and it was slightly heavy on Asian fare.
This is a great event to attend alone or with a group. Everyone was super friendly and just out to have a good time. Overall, it was a really fun, great night! Entry was $5, coat check was $4, and all the menu items (including drinks) are $5 or less, making Midnight Market a great value for a food-filled Friday night out! The next Midnight Market will take place on Friday, February 10th. Stay tuned for more details!
